So, my tolerance for Vanguard's whole "not being finished" thing hit its limit last night. After making a Dark Elf Necromancer and stuttering around the starting area like a zombified crackhead for ten minutes or so (which was ever so much fun), I remembered that I could make a Blood Elf Warlock at peak hours in WoW and not have this problem.
"But Canary!" I hear you object, "WoW has been out for two years now! That's hardly a fair comparison!"
Fine. Two and a half years ago, I could make an Undead Warlock while the game was in beta testing and still get better performance. How's that for fair?
I played around with the graphics settings last night. When you crank the graphics up (which caused my computer to howl in agony) the game looks pretty damn good, though the character models kind of seem out of place (and by "out of place", I mean unnaturally stiff and kinda lame). On the lowest settings, things begin to get comical. Trees are replaced by truly shitty GIFs of trees, unless you get really close to them (I'm talking dendrophile close), in which case they burst into polygons. The ground also turns into a big splotchy mass of greens and browns. Worst of all, I still stutter around, though not as bad as before.
I'll hold off on a final verdict until the trial is up, but I'm leaning away from "This game is Jesus reborn!" and more towards "Don't waste your time, go play WoW".
Oh, if you read this and it applies to you (you guys know who you are), go update the wiki.
I find that I don't have much to talk about today, so I'll cut out. Peace!
