The Silver Screen

This makes me happy.

I like movies, but I don't go to the movies much anymore for several reasons. First of all, we have pricing. To patron a theater with my custom costs around $10 just for the honor of walking in the door (or $20 if I bring my girl with me). Concessions are horrendously overpriced, with a "large" soda running about $5. I don't even know how much popcorn is; all I remember is the stomach-churning feeling I had last time I paid for it, which is an emotional response I get when looking at something that's anathema to my wallet. For the $30+ it would cost me to do the whole "movie thing", I can go to my local Target store and purchase two movies, with enough left over to grab some dinner.

"But Canary," I hear some of you chime in, "aren't you missing the experience of the big screen?"

To which I reply, "What big screen?" The screens at my local theaters are small. There was a real theater by my house, years ago...but it was sold and turned into a church. Then the church sold it, and now it's a bloody parking complex. My TV is just fine, and my couch is more comfortable than the theater chairs anyway.

An anecdote about screen size: When Episode II came out, I went to see it the first day. I purchased my ticket ($7.50 for the matinee), maybe bought a soda (only $3.50 at this point), and entered my theater.

It was like walking into a closet. The screen was a joke, barely bigger than a big-screen TV. A bunch of guys from an office complex nearby came in after me, and were just as pissed as I was. We spent the time before the movie started making snide comments about the sound quality of supply cupboards.

It didn't help that the movie sucked, either. All in all, it was a hobby-changing event, though it would take a near death experience before I finally wizened-up.

I'll quit ranting and get back to work. Peace!

Yeah, we should have seen Sponge Bob instead. In all honesty, that movie put me off period movies in general. :P

A shame, since there's a lot of really good ones, but yes, Alexander was horrific.

I'm sorry you went and saw that load. If I had known, I would have done all I could have done (including scraping out your conrias) to prevent you from seeing that.
