In case you havent heard, I purchased a MacBook Pro earlier this week. It's what I made my videocast with.
Yeah, that's right. I bought a Mac. Trust me when I say that purchasing it felt every bit as surreal as it sounds. First off, I don't come across your typical Apple consumer. I lack the "look", so to speak. In fact, it took me ten minutes just to get some customer assitance, since everyone there just assumed I was window shopping when, in fact, I had my wallet in my hand, ready and willing to blow $2k on one of their sleek mechanical contraptions. My girlfriend, on the other hand, was approached with the offer of assitance approximately seventeen times. They can probably smell the art nerds when they walk in the door. Maybe they've got some sort of sensor that sets off an alarm in the back room.
Anyway, pretentious Apple Store shennanigans aside, this machine is a smooth piece of work. It's been close to a decade since I last used a Mac, so there was a bit of a (thankfully small) learning curve to start with. Once I had my feet grounded, the rest clicked into place with ease.
Having grown up with Windows all my life, I expected to have to fight tooth and nail with my system from the moment it booted up, but this was not the case at all. Actually, I was surprised with how streamlined the experience was. Within moments of booting up, the computer was Internet accessible and ready to go. I waited for the other shoe to drop for a good two hours before I realized that there was no catch. As such, OSX gets my firm seal of approval!
The problem now is that my girlfriend wants to play with it all the time. I think it's that whole "art nerd" thing all over again. The machine probably releases some sort of pheremone.
Don't have much to say, and I'm busy at work, so that's about it for now. Peace!
