Miso hungry!

We're gonna do something a bit different today. I'm going to share with you a recipe.

That's right, I can cook. Don't look at me like that, it's true.

Last night, I made a bomb-ass batch of miso soup. Here's what you'll need:

Ingredients
4 cups of water (you can use 3 cups to increase the potency)
3 tablespoons white miso
2 cubes of chicken stock
1/2 block of tofu (optional)
Bean sprouts (optional)
Green onion (optional)
3 packs of cheap ramen (you all know the type I'm talking about)

You can find most, if not all, of these ingredients at your local supermarket. Miso might be a bit troublesome to find. They sell it at the Vons by my house, but this is hardly indicative of every store. I've also been to several Henry's that sell miso of different varieties (red and white, typically). Of course, you can always try a Japanese market of some sort.

Also, regarding miso: there are different types. White miso is milder, while red miso is saltier. We're using white miso today, because...well, because it's what I could find.

A final note regarding ingredients. The recipe originally called for dashi stock, but I couldn't find any. So, I replaced it with cubed chicken stock (easily found at any supermarket). This makes the meal non-vegetarian, but it tastes just as good (if not better) and is a little less salty (which doesn't really mean much).

Quick Tips
Wash your vegetables, you 'tard! I don't care if they came in a bag!
Wash your hands while you're at it!

How To Put It All Together
Crumble the chicken cubes into heating water and mix it in 'til they dissolve. Let it boil. Then, reduce the heat to medium and add in the miso. Like the chicken stock, you're gonna want to stir it around until it dissolves. Once that happens, add in your onions, tofu, and sprouts. Let them all heat up in there while stirring occasionally for a couple of minutes.

Once this is done, let it simmer and cook your ramen in a seperate pot.

Serve by putting noodles in a bowl, then ladling the soup on top.

All told, the entire process should take about 15-20 minutes, give or take.

This recipe should feed about 3-4 people.

Enjoy!

Miso is a staple of Japanese food, made of fermented rice, soy, and barley.

You can find out more about it here.
